Good to know
Laurel is probably the symbol of success! Already in ancient Greece and Rome scholars and sportsmen were crowned with laurel wreaths and even today the "Silver Laurel Leaf" represents the highest award for athletes, which is awarded by the President of Germany. Laurel is used less often fresh and mostly dried, as it tastes much better because it is less bitter. All over the world, plants with aromatic leaves are used and then often sold as Mexican, Indian or Indonesian laurel. However, these are mostly plants from other families. There are also a variety of ornamental laurel varieties, which are not suitable for consumption as they are toxic. In our case, however, it is the "real laurel" in the dried version, which has the noblest aroma.

Usage
Add as a whole leaf at the very beginning of the cooking process and remove it before serving, otherwise it could be accidentally swallowed and lead to significant intestinal problems. Laurel is also ideal as an addition to baked vegetables or as a fish filling.

Full taste development
Cook in water for a long time or fry with 3 tbsp oil.

Tipp
Add 2-3 bay leaves to the boiling water of potatoes, vegetables, pasta or rice. It is also very suitable for roasting vegetables in oil. However, it can also be placed in the same container in which flour or rice is stored. During storage, the products are flavoured, which of course also affects the taste – just try it out.

Health aspects
Perfect to regulate blood sugar levels
Blood & Heart
Especially in case you suffer from type 2 diabetes, laurel affects several components. In this way, insulin can be better absorbed and transported and glucose degradation can be slowed down.
Abdominal area
If bloating is to be prevented, it is always good to add laurel to the food. Therefore (and of course for taste) it is also indispensable for sauerkraut, red cabbage, lentils and many other dishes.
